Boot from SD

#1 Post by linko » Sun Jul 27, 2008 9:13 pm

Is it possible for the X61 to boot from SD? (The sd card slot). I saw a few reports, while searching google, that it did not boot from SD. Is this really so? The eeepc boots from SD, surely there is a way for this machine to do the same.

Edit:

I'm downloading Slax. I'll just test and see if It can boot. First from sd to usb adapter, and then the sd card slot.

Ok. so here was the test... :
Booted slax from my usb on

hp dv6000: booted perfectly. led on usb device was lit during POST.
custom-franken-box-thing: booted perfectly. led on usb device lit on POST.
lenovo X61, < 1 week old: led does not light up when inserted into the usb port. the usb device is not an option when F12 is pressed. The ONLY time I could get the bios to recognize the usb device is when i inserted it during POST. Then it booted ok, if I stuck it in at the magic moment. Did not boot from sd slot.

Am I missing something? The usb device should be recognized by the bios on boot, I shouldn't have to pull magic tricks.... maybe there is a bios update I'm missing... I'll go hunt for that.

If anyone has any idea/input, please let me know. This bothers me.

EDIT::::************

It appears my usb to sd adapter is failing. I put slax on another usb device, and the led comes on just fine during the X61 post. It seems the X61 is more sensitive to the failing device than the other computers... interesting. Anyway, the hp dv6000 doesn't boot from sd either, so I suppose its ok. I'm glad my thinkpad is ok though! ::pets thinkpad. 'good thinkpad'::
