New X61T Buyers: Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 Recovery DVD
I noticed that over the last few months Lenovo website shows the following as an ADDITIONAL & FREE option with all Tablet purchases with any version of Windows Vista available.
Recovery DVD
None [$0.00]
Genuine Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 Recovery DVD - US English
I believe it allows people to use the Windows Downgrade option for personal / software compatibility / corporate policy / other reasons.
If you fall into this scenario please reply to the following:
1) Have you seen it?
2) Did you buy such a Tablet?
3) Did you receive this Recovery DVD?
4) Could you please post the "Item" FRU / CRU / Product Code as present somewhere on your DVD / Cover and/or on your invoice / online statement?
5) I did not get one of these. I'd like to ask Lenovo to send me one so that I can downgrade to XP Tablet. I know that trying to install any other version of XP - OEM etc will not work right.
Do advise.
Thanks.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) 42X5595 SBB MSWXPTBL ED05 REC CD-USENG
I used that DVD to downgrade to the WinXP Tablet Edition, quite straightfoward, so far everything goes well.
Actually I got the tablet in the morning, by 2:00pm I had got rid of Win Vista

My tablet came with the XP Tablet 2005 CDs, though I hadn't requested them. The first thing I did was to burn a set of Vista recovery discs, in case of emergency.
I'd been using Vista for a few months when I decided to try XP. So I did a restore using the supplied recovery discs. Not worth it. I just didn't see a significant improvement in performance, so I went back to Vista, because Vista is prettier.

It was some effort trying to convince them to send me one. They finally agreed.. Let's see how it pans out.
If not I hope someone would be willing back up their DVD and share the ISO.

I got this in the mail today. But guess what AirBorne Express delivered it to the wrong street / house AND was left outside... and the lady from USPS was the one to bring it by.
How neglectful is that?
44Y2181
I looked it up and found the following info:
English (US) 44Y2181 replaces 44Y0615
ThinkPad Model......O/S............# of CD's....P/N FRU
--------------------------------------------------------
X61 Tablet.........Win XPP SP2 TE2006....7......44Y0615
Is TE 2006 better than TE 2005 or other way around?
I wish they had sent me a Single DVD instead of this 6/7 pack.
How are the DOWNGRADE licenses for this managed? Since the COA on the back is Vista.
mod edit: request for DVD ISO removed per forum rules on illegal software requests.

the 8-CD media kit is all that exists for XPT2005. there is no "DVD" kit available.

Erik - It appears there is such a kit (read above posts).
Mod - I thought the licenses were attached to the COA and not to the Recovery Disks...? There are people swapping Recovery Disks here all the time, aren't they?

there's no FRU number for an XPT2005 DVD kit in the X61T HMM or listed anywhere in the parts system. if one exists, i've never seen it.
besides, the end result would be exactly the same—it just takes a bit longer. unless you plan to rebuild your HDD all the time, i wouldn't worry about it.

He he.. Agreed. I did check the HMM but at the same time when I tried to do any recent purchases on Lenovo.com the option comes up. Try it now on the site.. I could post a screenshot

.
In fact that text I copied from Lenovos website. It just wont show me the part number until I buy it. I guess anyone whose bought a Tablet recently could vouch.
PS: Nah.. I am just CONCERNED with 6-7 CDs things get IFFY. I can easily SECURE a single DVD in a special case. Maybe its just some mental block that 1 DVD would be better than 6-7 CDs... or maybe just lazy about keeping & removing / reinserting when needed.

Ok. This is funky.

It says Recovery DVD. Also what about the Part Info posted by the other fellow.
I am a little baffled.
PS: Congrats on the new X61T. Did you not get rid of one before and got the X300?

it may
say DVD on the site but i still haven't seen one or seen the FRU number for it. lenovo's site is known to have errors so i'd rather see more definitive evidence.
in 13+ years of owning thinkpads, i've actually never owned a tablet. this is my first one. going back to 4:3 is weird but i like having SXGA+.
