How often do the 8-cell X61 batteries need to be replaced?

How many years does the 8-cell X61 battery hold its charge before deteriorating considerably after a fresh charge? 1 year? Or 2 years? Assuming daily use (300 charge cycles per year)...

The OEM battery seems awfully expensive ($179.99). Do the knockoffs give the same battery life?

I can't advise you on the life of the battery, but if you're going to be using it that heavily you should probably stick with the OEM batteries.

just goto visa.com and click on the "personal" link and there should be like rebates for lenovo. you can buy a lenovo 8cell battery for the same price as retail. i believe its 159 or something... unless there are cheaper oem batteries. you just have to have a visa card

and its rec to replace your battery after 300 cycles, at that poin you get half the original battery capacity. im at 370 cycles. and at full charge and with everything on low i get 4hrs, and a little over 3hrs if i have the screen almost all the way bright. (2 bars away from full brightness)

I have also found that the batteries age. A 2 year old battery starts to lose charge capacity really fast.

Also - if you let it get really hot (car trunk, etc.) it can kill the lifetime.

I've had no problems with the knockoff with respect to battery life. However, for whatever reasons, the 3rd party 8-cell I got off eBay doesn't let the computer fit into the X6 ultrabase.
