System Update Corrupt File

Anyone else been caught by a corrupt file in System Update?
I've got a brand new X61 with Vista that I went to apply the System Updates to, and now I've got to re-image the drive because one of the updates to R&R is causing it to boot into R&R and only R&R. Safe mode & Last Known Good don't work.
I called Lenovo Tech Support & was told that it's a known problem with System Update and they're working on it. Doesn't do me much good, but maybe this might help someone else.

Welcome to the forum!
I have not heard of anything like this.
Do you have an optical drive that you can start your X61 from? You may be able to run an repair or diagnostic os.
Probably too late already if you have reimaged the drive. A brand new laptop wouldn't have too much of anything to backup anyway.

I'm doing the setup for a friend, and they hadn't given me the docking station, so I didn't have the optical drive. The machine doesn't come with any bootable optical media to run a repair from (other than the XP down grade media), in any case.
Spent the 2.5 hours doing the re-image, and the 1.5 hours redoing the setup, and call Tech support asking them which updates to not install, and they send me to the IBM downloads site that has the list of drivers & S/W to download. No answer on which update is bad.
Just what I need, spend a bunch of time getting this right, then give it back to my friend & have them do System Updates and wipe it all out again <G>

I have run the updates many times and not had any trouble. No real reports of any trouble on this forum that I recall.
It's a little late now but if you ever need an external optical drive I would be happy to lend you one. You are close.

I've got the same problem; updated machine this night and it did indeed update R&R. Now, it just boots into R&R automatically, I can't get it to go to vista instead.
VERY unfortunate, since I need the machine tomorrow... Anyone know how to restore that section of the boot sector to choose vista?

Looked like a solution, though;
Error: ReadCurrentDriver() error 65535
Safeguard Easy was not found on this computer.
This program did not make any changes.
Please remove this media and restart your computer
Any other suggestions?
