Battery Just Died

Well my battery is corrupt/dead. I can't turn my X60s on without it being plugged in and when I plug it in, the battery indicator flashes orange. When I go check the health of the battery it says that the battery is corrupt (it shows a 75% charge).
Anyhow, I called Lenovo Tech Support, and they told me that my 3 year on site warranty doesn't cover my battery. Warranty on the battery is only 1 year and the tech was SURPRISED that my battery lasted more than a year. They usually only last one year. What the hell?
So besides venting a little bit, I just want to confirm with you guys that I indeed need to buy a replacement battery? This really sucks.

It's normal. I'm lucky to get one year out of a battery. I use my ThinkPads on battery a lot, so the cycle count builds up fast.
None of my batteries have failed like yours though. Usually mine "go off a cliff" i.e. one day they give a few hours, the next day life plummets to less than an hour.
They are consumables and I just replace them.
Search around, you will find plenty of battery life threads!

It's normal. I'm writing this from my X60s which I use a lot and I just ordered a replacement battery last Thursday. Mine acted just like yours. That said I can give you a few tips to extend battery life. Go to start / all programs / thinkvantage / power manager. There you will find settings, that allow you to setup when the battery charging stars and stops. What you want to do, is to set it to _stop_ charging at 95% (not 100% as is the default). Then you want to set it to begin charging at 30%. This way you can just use the computer with it plugged in without it keeping the battery maxed out at 100% all the time.
I forgot to set this up on mine thus I only got a year out of the battery. However on my T60 which I got at the same time as my X60s, I remembered to do the setup on that one and the battery as of today has 68% service life remaining. So while that's not as accurate as one would like, translated I expect to get about 18 months out of that battery. The reason is that I used the same power settings on my T43 and got 18 months out of that battery no problem.
Cheers!

Compared to all other components that make up a computer, batteries are like the least technologically advance...It's quite sad really.

There used to be a sticky at the top of this forum about failed Lenovo batteries. There is a URL to check to see if your battery is a known faulty one. My X60 battery was on the list and I got a free replacement outside of warranty. Search here or Lenovo for the URL.

There is a
Recall on some of the batteries supplied by Lenovo's vendors, as Lenovo does not make it's own batteries. Mine was not on that list. Here is the link to determine if you have a battery that is subject to recall.

Unfortunately, my battery isn't part of the recall.
Anyhow, should I buy the same battery? I ordered a 8 cell battery and when I searched up FRU: 92P1227, there seems to be different versions of it. Also, do you guys know what is the best place to buy a new battery? Buying from Lenovo is really expensive and it takes 8 weeks.

Is there a reliable website/retailer I can just order a battery from that is cheaper than Lenovo?

You could go this route. I've heard mainly good things about them, but they do take some time to turn a battery around. The only thing is I don't like how your battery died, so the electronics might be questionable. They do have a good refund policy if they can't rebuild/recharge the battery. Anyway, for what it's worth ...

I have had very good luck with this company, they sell new Lenovo OEM batteries (at a discount) in the same sealed box, as thought you bought it direct from Lenovo. Plus you save sales tax. I just bought one for my X60s. They had it in stock as opposed to Lenovo which rarely has anything in stock, plus I saved over $45. Had the battery is just a few days.
