X61 WWAN Clarification

Hi,
This may be a dumb question, but I can't find the answer anywhere....
I have an X61 (7675-59U) that came with Verizon WWAN. I'd like to change it to AT&T. I know I can use MC8765 or MC8775 (if you can point me to pin 20 trick it will save me some time).
HOWEVER, when I opened the dimm door I found a card with a SIM slot. Wasn't ready for it.... Verizon doesn't use SIM.
Can someone shed light on what I found? Do I need to buy another piece of hardware or is it just a software change?
I tried to plug my AT&T data SIM into the slot but it didn't seems to get me connected to anything :)
TIA,
-ran

Hold the card with label on top and "pins" pointing to you: Pin-1 is top left. Pin-20 is the 2nd pin on the bottom counting starting at the right of the "cut" (key) in the circuit board. See this: http://www.hardwarebook.info/PCI_Express_Mini_Card

If the WWAN card is CDMA (i.e., Verizon EV-DO or similar) then the SIM card holder is not applicable and does not matter what you place there, if anything. If the WWAN card is GSM (i.e., AT&T or similar), then the SIM card holder must contain a valid card for a GSM WWAN account.

Ran, do you mean the trapdoor on the bottom of the laptop ? That's where the SIM card is (if needed) but the actual WWAN card is under the righthand side of the paml rest - you need to remove the keyboard and top cover to see it.

Thank you - I thought it was one piece. Would you know if I can swap the Verizon card with an AT&T card (off of eBay) and make it work? Is the SIM module even connected to the card if the laptop was sold as a Verizon one?

Thank you. I guess what I am trying to figure out now is if the Verizon WWAN card can be swapped by me to an AT&T card...... any ideas?
