X61 Lid Scratches too Easily

#1 Post by Imran999 » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:33 pm

2 day old X61s already has some marks on the lid.
Arrrggghhhhhhh!!

Why does IBM/Lenovo make such a durable machine but then cover the lid with the most 'easy to scratch' finish I have ever experienced on a laptop?

All my previous Xxx machines look awful now.

If any one is aware of a way to protect the finish, I'd love to hear about it!

thanks

I notice my other thinkpads don't have any (or a couple) of scratches on them. They're all bought used. However, my new x61t has some of the covering rubbed on one corner. The corner must have rubbed on the inside of my bookbag.. A bit annoying.

My X61t picked up a big circular mark the first time I put it in my bag...and it's never picked up another mark. I dunno what that's all about, but perhaps it's just that I'm taking more care when I put it in the bag.

After six months of relatively light use, though, I'm starting to get some shine on the corners. I don't mind so much, but I know some people do.

You can use white spirit and light detergent to clean the lid. All the scratches will come off if done correctly.

you must be kidding then, this would remove the coating at all.

I have cleaned over 50 ThinkPads this way, works every time. It doesn't damage the coating if done properly.

Of course, you can't remove heavy deep scratches like the ones done with a knife.
