Availability of X6x?

Any idea on how much longer the X6x will be available?

I'm guessing that it will be eventually phased out in favor of the X200, which I'm disappointed with. I much prefer the standard screen (with a slim bezel) and smaller overall size of my X61. Wish Lenovo stuck to the X61 form factor, added an SSD drive, & fit the battery into the machine (instead of sticking it out the back).

But one can always dream... :(

The next few months should be the best time to get an X61, with it being phased out and everyone getting rid of the stock.

Just don't wait too long, or you might miss it (kinda like I missed the Core 2 Duo T60 Flexview models, haha. Had to purchase used. ;))

Glad to know I'm not the only one who hates the new form factors... sheesh.

There will be plenty of used models on ebay and as long as the unit is under warranty it is effectively as good as a new unit and since you can always extend the warranty before the warranty expires it really doesn't matter if you have a used or new unit.

IMO, the 12.1" widescreen per se is a great form factor for ultraportable laptops, but the form factor of the X200/X200s isn't good because of the wide display bezels. Look at this photo. If both machines had the same bezel width, the X200 would have a smaller footprint than the X6*. But unfortunately Lenovo screwed it up. I hope Lenovo will bring back the X4*/X6*'s thin bezels but that's pretty unlikely. (However, if I were forced to buy either the X61 or the X200, I would get the latter because of its higher resolution.)

jsbrown, have you checked the Lenovo Outlet? There's a $718 refurbished X61 right now. And, welcome to the forum!

How could they make the X200 bulkier (an inch larger in width) and still manage to put in a smaller screen (that is an inch shorter in height)???

Did the new design team at Lenovo even look at what the old design team at IBM came up with? The X200 feels like what a class of student designers would come up with when told to try and copy the professionally developed X61.

So disappointing. :(

It's a relief to hear other people say that. I read just yesterday that the x200 was the x61's replacement, and I went: :x I mean, sure, it's cool. It's a thinkpad. XD But in my opinion the x61 is by far better. I'm not so much a fan of widescreen 'tops. O_o

That's just plain cheaping out. If they went to a screen to fill the bezel like the x6x sereis, it would be substantially better.

Widescreen is the way the whole market heading, and Lenovo can't change that, since LCD manufacturer don't like to produce standard screens that much due to low profit margin, and wasteful trimoffs.

A reason that I bought X61 is that it's not a wide-screen laptop.
