This must be brand new. I totally would have used it if it had existed three weeks ago. I love software that leaves no footprint--it keeps the clutter far, far away.

that thing sounds exactly like what i've been doing with the Thinkpad Software Installer applet for ages. i might just have to try it out.

I saw it early this morning, and downloaded it, but I'm not crazy about it relying on NET. I had an issue with NET recently, and it might lead to another factory reinstall. :(

It is. It's apparently is a "thinner" version. (smaller footprint, uses less ram etc)

I was looking at it again and noticed "ForVistaUnc.reg" It contains:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system]
"EnableLinkedConnections"=dword:00000001
Has that any effect in Vista?

The site is gone now. I downloaded the EXE when the site was up, but have not yet installed it.

I wonder why it was pulled. Anyhow, I uploaded the 32-bit version here if anyone still wants to take a chance on it:

maybe they found a big flaw from the software and pulled it out

^ I guess so. Looks like Lenovo's pulled it.

That's a shame as I'd like to trash System Update once and for all. Come to think of it, I haven't used it for several months (getting updates through an RSS feed), so maybe I'll dump SU anyway.
