X61 undock after sleep => wake up

Compared to the problems others have (from what I have seen here), my symptoms are just mildly annoying. I work with my laptop docked and using an external monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse. The dock is connected to an Ethernet network, and I don't use WiFi (not at the office, that is). In the evening I put the laptop into stand by (sleep) using the wonderful PowerOff utility; it works fine. But then I want to take the laptop off the dock and store it somewhere; as soon as I unlock the laptop from the dock (using the lever), the laptop turns right back on.

What I am doing today is putting the laptop into hibernate, but I would really love to just stand it by; it has 3 GB of RAM, and hibernate takes about 60 seconds vs 3 seconds for stand by.

Anybody has any hints? Thanks and regards.

Try if its gone when you use the undock feature by pressing FN+F9 (x61s keyboard layout, but i guess its the same as x61) before going into standby, the notebook should stay in sleeping mode when you physically undock.

Second option is to push the button on the left side of the dockingstation (therse a green sign pointing onto that button) the notebook awakes, does the undock procedure and goes to standby again. you can also see that the red sign on the left of your docking station is off now. After that u can take your x61 off the docking station.
If you wanna go back to work, just plug the notebook back in the docking and wake it up.

I just undock first, then put the computer to sleep. Works fine for me. I use the undock option in the start menu, then pull the computer out of the dock, close it, and put it in my bag. Works every time.

I have the laptop set so that closing the lid will not do anything, since I use it docked and from an external LCD monitor. Is this your case? Can you set it such that closing the lid while docked will not do anything, but closing the lid while undocked will put it to sleep?

I don't believe that you can change the lid-closure action to vary depending on the docked/undocked status (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

My typical use of the system is docked with an external LCD monitor, but I keep the laptop open so that I can use it's built-in display as a secondary monitor. So, for me there's no need to disable the "sleep when lid closed" feature.

In your case, I probably would be turning that off, but would just use the Fn-F4 key or the start menu option to go to standby instead of just closing the lid.
