Problem cloning HD with Apricorn

#1 Post by sgmidf » Tue Oct 07, 2008 8:04 pm

I'm clearly having a senior moment trying to clone my 100GB HDD to a Seagate 320 using Apricorn EZ GIG II. I want to manually resize the partition to take advantage of all of my storage and for the life of me, I can't seem to do it. I get to the point where it asks me to resize and I can't seem to get it to change from the 86gigs..it just moves the physical location, leaving the free space. How do I get it to stretch to fit the size?
Thanks

I am not familiar with the Apricorn kit, but if it allows you to run non-Apricorn software, you could try Acronis Migrate Easy. It re sizes partitions on the fly and has a free 15 day trial.

It turns out to be the same software!

I tried it with "auto", figuring that I'd just resize later. I got file errors reading the original drive. I reinstalled it and ran chkdsk with no errors found. In the FAQ, it mentions diabling the "pre-desktop area" prior to cloning. Do I need to do that? Also, do I need to change the BCD settings?

Not that this helps you but I did pretty much the same thing 100GB to 250GB. I don't recall doing anything special. I think I recall something about an auto resize or something like that.
