I bought a new Mini PCI-e card for my Thinkpad and want to swap it out with the current one. I thought I remembered seeing a PDF showing how to do so, but I can't seem to find it. I am on a Thinkpad x60 Tablet.
Any help, especially a link to a guide, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Replacing the Mini PCI-e card?
Re: Replacing the Mini PCI-e card?
I am in France and don't have time to try to find the link, but if you go on the Lenovo website you can go to the support section, put in your machine type (found on a label on the back) then search under manuals for the "hardware maintenance manual" for the X60/x60 tablets. Looking through the table of contents for this large PDF (acrobat) file you will find a page that shows you how to do this.Tu13es wrote:I bought a new Mini PCI-e card for my Thinkpad and want to swap it out with the current one. Let me warn you that this is a bit of a job on this machine. I replaced the WiFi card on one of my X60Ts last month. The IBM technicians tried to talk me out of doing the replacement myself and rather encouraged me to send it in for EZ-serv warranty service, but I insisted on repairing it myself, and they relented and sent me the part.
You will need to remove a bunch of things in order to get at the card. These include the keyboard, keyboard bezel, and several other things. A whole bunch of screws must be removed in the process.
This is not a repair beyond the capacity of someone who is used to working on laptops, but is WAY more difficult than changing out a hard disk, replacing a keyboard, or adding RAM memory into a system. There is a real possibility of doing real damage in the process if you are not very careful.
You have been warned, and the information you seek is present in the hardware maintenance manual for your machine.

Thanks, Ken. The card that's in the system now isn't faulty, I simply bought a new card as I was having compatibility issues with the 3945 card it came with.Ken Fox wrote:I am in France and don't have time to try to find the link, but if you go on the Lenovo website you can go to the support section, put in your machine type (found on a label on the back) then search under manuals for the "hardware maintenance manual" for the X60/x60 tablets. Did you run into any major hangups when doing the replacement? I've taken laptops apart in the past and, assuming I can find the replacement guide, am pretty confident I'll be able to do it. I realize it's not an easy swap, but figure I'll set aside a few hours to take my time and do everything right.
