X61 Tablet shut down problems
First off, i'm new to the forums and this is my first post...I hope this ends up being a good experience!
So i got my X61 Tablet with Windows XP Tablet Edition back in May, and it has been going just fine. Lately, when i shut down my computer it has to try and force quit something called "EventWnd" and will not shut down until i click the 'End Now' button when it fails to close the process on its own. Of course, this is annoying because i cannot shut down my computer and just walk away. Sometimes i have to sit through this box for 3 or 4 iterations on a single shutdown.
I ran a few spyware checks and what not, but those didn't pick up anything relevant. I used Symantec Antivirus Spybot and HijackThis. I can post a long HijackThis log if someone thinks it will be helpful.
Also very recently the same thing has started happening with another process called "PwrMgrBkGndWindow" as well.
I've tried searching google and this forum for EventWnd and PwrMgrBkGndWindow and have found nothing useful. Does anyone know what this process is, and how i can get it to cooperate with the windows shutdown routine?
Thanks,
Andrew

a couple of thoughts:
have you searched the M$ website for info..
it seems to me that something happened, recently, that might be causing this..
have you done anything you can trace this back to..?
like load a new application..?

I can't remember exactly when it started happening, but it might have started after i updated my video drivers...
here's what I'm running:
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
Driver 6.14.0010.4926 2/15/2008
(this was the newest driver as of 2 months ago)
But It very well could have been happening before this driver was started. It used to be off and on, every once in a while it would pop up so i just dealt with it. now that it happens a few times every shutdown I'm actually trying to get rid of it.
I wish i knew what EventWnd was associated with so i could figure out who's work is causing this issue (MS, Intel, etc) so i can ask them directly. I'm shocked google doesn't return any results for either name, because i assumed that someone somewhere has had the same problem and would have posted it on a forum that google crawled.
Also, after an hour on the Microsoft website all I learned was that their helpful tech support costs $59.00 plus tax.

turkey,
I can't actually help but can add a data point. About once a week PwrMgrBkgndWindow get stuck for me also. Will not shutdown. It seems to be related to the Thinkpad Battery Maximiser gauge, which stops responding when this occurs. I can force it to end and logoff and then it works fine for a few days. Have never been able to connect this to any cause.
T60
XP SP2
Latest Lenovo ATI drivers -1
Current MS and Lenovo updates except for the graphics
This has been happening since the T60 was new.

Re: X61 Tablet shut down problems
I love reviving a thread after 5 years. Today, for the first time, AFAIR, I had the same problem as raster, XP refusing to shut down on a T60 because PwrMgrBkGndWindow is still grinding. This was after the following peculiarity: I had copied a bunch of files from one USB drive to another, and after being happy that they had been copied properly, erased them from the first drive. After that, Windows would not allow me to eject the first drive, insisting that a program was accessing it, even when I had shut down every task bar program. Something to do with the raft of file erasures? If there is a connection between Power Manager and system file erasures, I imagine that it would be difficult to diagnose otherwise.
