voice recognition system

I was just going through few articles online at newscientist and stumbled upon this thought..i was wondering if there could be a voice recognition system in an x61 ( or other series as well) as a security measure instead of a fingerprint swipe..

i mean x61 has a microphone built into it, and the usuage of a voice recognition system is much more secure than a standard fingerprint swipe..atleast thats what i felt....

Any views and ideas on this one people... :)

A fingerprint requires access to a copy of a fingerprint and some molding to emulate, a voice can be caught with a high quality mike without much issue. A fingerprint also will work in a noisy area, where voice recognition needs things fairly quiet.

hmm....dats a thought...
if noisy environments was to be set aside, can we still be able to implement the voice recognition system..my idea was to implement it just like a finger print reader...

and also all the x series ( or mostly ) have a built in mic in them.. :)

Sounds like a real idea. Just to give you an extra option to login; it won't be the only solution to have at hand, but if you get the choice, I can think of situations where it's easier to just say a sentence instead of swipe your finger as I can think of situations that the other way around would be simpler.

It's definitely an idea, I actually had it in my t30 (I'd tell you using what program if I could remember.) Try googling biometric login. I can now use voice, fingerprint, or face login. That's also how I know why most people don't use it. It's great for a quiet home use. In noisy areas it has a tendency to loop telling you wrong login though.

What!!????
T30 had a similar one!!!! wow...i dint knew that...

well i did a lot of googling on biometric login and VRS [Voice Recognition Systems] and all i could stumble upon are IEEE stuff and articles and theoretical stuff..
"Truk" it would be really great if you could let us know what program did a similar job in the past thinkpads 8) 8)

hey truk..
I have found this on a website...is this what you were talking about!????????

One is a security feature that will interest government agencies. The IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0 consists of an embedded security chip and a free, downloadable software package called IBM Client Security Software. The software includes an administrator utility that manages activation and de-activation of the security chip. It can also archive and regenerate keys and pass phrases as well as register the administrator's fingerprints (the ThinkPad T30 does not include a fingerprint reader, however). Other features of this software include a client utility that allows users to change their pass phrases and a library of drivers for a plug-and-play interface for industry-standard (MSCAPI or PCKS#11) security applications and devices, such as token and biometric readers. The final component of the Client Security Software is the User Verification Manager (UVM), which lets you to set security policy directly on the client and integrates with a centralized, policy-based access control solution. The UVM enforces policy whether the client is networked or stand-alone.

It wasn't a lenovo or IBM program, it was a commercial program. Also note that it only allows login to windows, NOT the bios. I have no idea what it was though. I assume it's been scrapped. 'Windentify' I believe is a similar product, but I've never used it.

yeh..windentify seems to be a similar program!! :(
but the concept of security at the OS level is comparatively lower than the one at the BIOS level!!
at least thats what i think....

there is a trial version though for windentify...will try it on and post it back here..

hmm...stilll if anyone can pour in ideas about VRS are more than welcome :o
