X61 / XP SP2 Rapid battery drain in stand by mode

Hi folks,

I'm a relatively new X61 user (not quite three months now). It has 2 GB RAM and is running XP SP2.

I've noticed that it usually, but not always, loses a lot of power in standby mode overnight. From 100% charged when I go into standby at around 5 pm, it will lose 15% of it's power by 8 am next morning. The battery itself is in fine shape and still has a full charge capacity over 76 Wh (design capacity around 74 Wh). Once in a while I use it unplugged and get around 5 hours of practical use. So the battery is OK.

Is there a list of things I can look into to see why the power drains so fast overnight? My T42p (also with 2 GB RAM) would lose something like 2% overnight.

Note that I usually am docked during the day, so I tell it to undock, then when that is complete, close the lid and pull it from the dock. It goes to standby either right before or right after I pull it. Haven't noticed a difference in drain based on order of operations here.

FWIW, the physical wireless radio switch is off overnight, so I can rule out the wifi as a drain.
