Stop vista resizing windows when switching to tablet mode

#1 Post by noetus » Sat Nov 22, 2008 11:25 am

I find this 'feature' annoying, and I can't imagine any situation when I'd want it to happen. And it doesn't even work correctly - if you switch to tablet mode, the windows will resize, then switch back to portrait mode, they will resize again - but NOT to their original sizes, but to something else again.

Anyone know how do I switch this annoyance off??

Am I the only one who finds the resizing algorithm less than ideal?

Resizing is fine in principle, but it doesn't work in the way I would want. And either it is not possible to change the behavior, or I don't know how to change the behavior.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Or does the silence mean everyone but me is happy with the way it works?

It's not really a 'feature'. It's standard windows function that they perform when you change your resolution. While I don't like my pile of icons getting shifted around, I've just learned to ignore it.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it. At least not as a preference or setting in windows.
X22 - 800mhz - 640MB RAM - 60GB Hitachi 7200rpm 7k100
X40 - 1.4ghz - 1.5GB RAM - 8GB Transcend 300x CF on Addonics CF/IDE Adapter
T42p - 1.8ghz - 15" UXGA - 1GB RAM - 160GB HDD
X61t - C2D 1.6ghz - 12.1" SXGA+ - 8GB RAM - Intel G3 300GB SSD

I see... I thought it was part of the Vista tablet features, not a Vista feature in general. Because after all the screen resolution hasn't changed, it's just the proportions that have switched around.

Well, my workaround is to use Actual Windows Manager and create a button that resizes the window to my preferred size for that window. At least then I can easily change to windows to the size I usually use when going from landscape to tablet and vice versa.
