[X60T] Shutdown/reboot issue.

For the sake of clarification:
Warm boot is a Start -> Reboot
Cold boot is a Start -> Shut Down, then press the power button at some point.
Tepid boot is when I Start -> Shut Down and immediately try to boot the machine.
But apparently with my thinkpad, there are two types of cold boots. Ones that are too warm, and ones that aren't. If I do a shut down, or a manual power down with the power button depressed for 10 seconds or however long, the system safely goes into a shutdown state with the battery and AC LEDs lit.
If I too quickly (within 30 seconds) after shutting down attempt to start the computer again, the next LED to the left of the power and AC ones flashes, then they all go black. Once they're all black, I have to remove the AC cable and the battery or the machine will not reboot.
My X60 Table is out of warranty so I'm also curious as to what my options are for getting this fixed, if this behavior is dangerous to any of the components, etc.
