My machine has existing 150GB drive. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 7200RPM 320GB or 500GB drive. Which models should I be looking at? and where's a good place to source them?

500 GB drives do not come in a 7200 rpm version. But the 3 5400 rpm drives that fit in your machine can be found here.
$100 is certainly the lowest I have seen so far (during the summer they were twice that amount). But, of course, prices will only fall .

The Seagate Momentus 320G drive fits nicely. $89, free shipping.

7200RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 3.0Gb, 4.17ms access time, 5 years limited warranty.

I've got a pair of these that replaced the stock drive. They don't seem to run too hot either.

I installed the Seagate Momentus 320GB in my X61T for a bit. Performance was great, but I started to see all kinds of errors in the system event log, until eventually I got a BSOD (something I haven't seen for a while).

I replaced it with the similar Hitachi drive (7200RPM, 320GB), which is marginally slower, but has been completely error free. The Hitachi drive also has the bonus(?) of being a Hybrid Hard Disk, with on-board flash memory. This actually seems to be working OK, unlike the Intel Turbo Memory.

The reviews on Newegg suggest problems with the Seagate drive are not infrequent. The Western Digital Scorpio Black drive also gets good reviews.

NewEgg is a great source for all the drives.

That is on the X60 motherboard and thus works for any harddrive.
