X61T using DOCK and LAN speed of 100mb

#1 Post by nikemen » Fri Dec 05, 2008 11:37 am

So, I don't usually use my X61t in dock with a wired LAN connection, but today I had to a do a bunch of File Transfers.

But, the LAN connection in network connections and AC, shows 100MB and not 1000MB. I have it connected to a GIGE hub, and sending files from another computer on the SAME hub and on a GIGE connection?

Does the X61T dock NOT do GIGE, even though the X61T does?

The X6 Ultrabase has Gigabit Ethernet. Is that what you are using?

I assume

I assume, the setup I use works fine with my t42 and the dock that works with it, and shows 1000mb. When I switch the cable to the X61t dock, it shows 100mb.

Well, it's either the driver, the Gigabit ethernet hardware, or the cable. Try running PCDoctor on the Gigabit Ethernet. You can also try manually setting the link speed to 1GB in device manager, network adapter, Gigabit Ethernet adapter properties, advanced tab.

So, I hadn't seen this last post but what I did was going into the NIC control panel and changed the link speed from AUTO NEGOTIATE to 1000ms full duplex.

That seems to now have a status of 1GB in the status window. I'm testing the speed at the moment now.

Shouldn't auto negotiate do the same thing though?

It should, but you never know how a particular adapter is going to react to a type of cable, that is why I mentioned CAT 5e. If you are using regular CAT5, it works or it doesn't...
