Reboot Required every time I wish to read CD - ultrabase

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, and not too happy to have to be here! (No offense to all you folks.)

Every time I eject a CD, it's like the optical drive is dead until a reboot. It won't read anything after the tray door opens.... It's always been this way.

I'm running XP SP3. The drive is listed as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N in the device manager, and it's installed in the X6 ultrabase. The driver is Microsoft generic 2007. Do I need a different driver? What gives?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Harry, thanks for the link, but that wasn't it. I didn't have either registry value to be deleted.

I'm not getting a MS error when I try to access the device, just that the window opens blank, like there are no items on the CD. Right now I'm trying to browse to a file on the CD, and it looks like an empty folder. After a restart, the info is there.

Very frustrating! Anyone?

Mike
