Can somebody tell me if Part # 42W3107 = Part # 40Y8116?

X60/X61 series specific matters only.

Can somebody tell me if Part # 42W3107 = Part # 40Y8116?

#1 Post by atwnsw » Thu Dec 25, 2008 2:27 pm

As you know, Lenovo has so many part #'s for the same item that I find it impossible to figure out.

I have an x61s and would like to know if this docking station, 42W3107, will work on my machine?

Can somebody tell me if Part # 42W3107 = Part # 40Y8116 (which I know is correct)?

I don't have the tablet.

Thanks in advance for helping with my first post......

I believe 42W3107 is for the tablet. That means it will NOT work on the notebook version. (X60 and X60s)

The reason that I am asking if the parts are identical is because I found an auction on ebay for a docking station. The seller isn't sure which model will work on it.

If you look closely at the ebay auction, you will see that the photo is nearly identical to the link below from lenovo's website.

I think that I can buy it very inexpensively because it is listed with an unknown or unfamiliar part #.

Here is the link:

X60 Series Ultrabase at shop.lenovo.com

So, now you know why I am asking....

I have a 42w3107 here and it is marked "ThinkPad X6 UltraBase". I'm 99% sure it is for the non-tablet X6x but I don't have one here right now to try it.

Lenovo X61 parts manuals list the following;

X6 Ultrabase - X60/X61/s - 40Y8120 or 42X4320 (depending on model)
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... R-62906#28

X6 Tablet Ultrabase - X60/X61 - 41W6721 or 42X4322 (depending on model).
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67023

Any other part numbers are just guesswork unless someone takes the time to check part numbers on an Ultrabase hooked to a working X61 tablet or regular X61. This would be a good idea since there is some confusion over part numbers in this area ...

I'm sorry. My notes were wrong. I actually have 2 of them here (42W3107, FRU 42W3108). They are certainly for the X61/X61S notebook, non tablet. One of the ones I have has an X60 notebook mounted on it right now.

Thanks for the response. So you are saying that the 42w3107 will work on the x61s non-tablet.

Is that correct?

I want to be sure ..

Thanks

I have both the dock for the non-tablet and for the tablet. For anyone's quick visual reference, a simple way of telling the two apart is that the non-tablet dock has a lot more "bumps" on the top, as in the picture of the eBay item. The tablet's dock is rather flat to match that of the X61t's flat bottom. Also, the little notch near the front edge (closest edge to you if you were using it) that is meant for the hardware wireless switch is more closer to the center for the non-tablet, and farther to the right for the tablet dock.
