#1 Post by bananaman » Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:08 pm

This is going to make a few people happy!

Version 7BETD7WW (2.18)

* (Fix) The computer with RICOH CardBus Controller has slow data transfer performance.

Unfortunately, there is ZERO difference on the SD card reader access rate using the new BIOS 2.18, so it is unclear precisely what was "fixed".

Example: A Sandisk Ultra II SD card which reads >25MB/sec in the USB slot reads only at 3MB/sec in the SD card slot -- both before and after the update to BIOS 2.18.

The SD card reader speed can be measured using HD Tune (the free version), available here:
http://www.hdtune.com/

EDIT: -- Indeed, as noted by the two posts below, the CardBus is not the SD card reader, so no reason to expect any changes with the SD reader. Nonetheless, one wishes the SD card reader were a bit faster ...

Possibly it's talking only about the CardBus part.

Yes the SD card is not on the Ricoh CardBus controller, so I wouldn't expect any change.
