Hi, I’ve went from 3GB to 4GB memory to gain the extra 300K from 3.0GB to 3.3GB. I run VMWare workstation and could use the extra memory without jumping to Vista 64.
I’ve done this with my desktop running Vista Ultimate and I can see 3.3GB just fine with a 4GB however with my X61 Tablet, I only get 3062MB/3GB with 4GB memory.
Anyone else run into this and any tips on gaining as much of the 4GB as possible w/ Vista 32bit without going Vista 64bit?
X61 Tablet C2Duo 1.6Ghz, 320GB HD, Vista Business
Thanks,
mo

Vista 32-bit has a limit of 3Gb (plus or minus a bit). If you want to use more within one operating system, you must switch to 64-bit. ... JDH

The amount of available memory to Windows is dependent on how many devices and resources you are enabling in the BIOS. The less of this in use, the more you have for Windows. So start disabling features you don't use, reboot and check.
A note about the RAMdisk feature loyukfai posted above. This might give you significant boost to the system, but might also introduce instability. Use with caution.

Your laptop has integrated graphics. That's what's using up the extra 300M (Probably 256M). Nothing you can do about it.
Very unlikely that it makes any meaningful difference in performance.

Thanks,
I"m going to have to try the ramdisk, at least it allows access to it eventhough it's not what I was hoping for.
As for the built in video, my desktop also has a built in video card which takes up 256MB and still shows up as 3.3GB. I was hoping someone would says they have Vista 32bit Ultimate and can see 3.3GB.

Right - Your desktop has a video card with its own memory. The laptop uses part of the 4GB since it has integrated graphics that uses system memory.

VMware Workstation supports x64 (it has x64 signed drivers), so you can take your X61t to 8GB of RAM.
