drop/spill insurance

#1 Post by henrym » Sun Jan 18, 2009 4:51 pm

Hi folks
I am about to buy an X-61 tablet. Someone recommended I get "drop/spill" insurance and said it is on the Lenovo site. I can't find it and is it worth it (I don't know how muuch it is).
Thanks
Henry

Welcome to the forum! Is the X61t new or used? Buying from Lenovo or a 3rd party?

Try calling the number listed on the below web site, and ask about upgrading your base warranty to include ThinkPad Accident Protection. I don't know how much it will cost. You're the only one who can decide whether it's worth it to you based on the cost of the system and how it will affect you if you or someone else drops and breaks it, if more liquid gets spilled into it than the spill-resistant keyboard can handle or if any other damage occurs. Accident Protection can only be added within the first 30 days.

Its called "Thinkpad Protection" and is an add on to the normal warranty.

As to whether it is worth it, that will depend on how you use your Thinkpad.

For instance, if you do a lot of field work, and your Thinkpad is therefore exposed to to a lot of risk, then its probably worthwhile, while on the other hand if it rarely leaves home and you are always careful with handling it, then it may not represent good value.

Cheers,

Thanks for your insight. I do take it into the field fairly often so I'd better get it.
Cheers
