no microsoft updates
no microsoft updates
I took my x61 out of the box and the first thing I did was get the microsoft updates, but they all failed. If I haven't loeded any programs into it yet, so what has happened?

Re: no microsoft updates
Well, if the machine is brand new, and if you hooked it up to the internet (so that registration succeeded), and still can't get updates, then consider calling Lenovo support as a warranty call. .... JDH

Re: no microsoft updates
I've sporadically had one or two updates fail, usually as part of a bunch of 'em, but never the whole shebang. I'm assuming they did, in fact, download and that it was the installation part that failed, but just want to ensure you're not facing a network connectivity issue.
That being said, before I went into panic mode, I'd probably pick one of them, maybe a small one, and hunt around Micro$oft's site for the ability to explicitly download the update file to your hard drive. (That's possible for all updates, but is usually buried and a little bit tough to locate.) I'd then see if the update succeeded when that executable is run on your own machine.
If not, you're no worse off than before. But if so, this might get the machine straightened out enough for normal updating procedure to function correctly.
Is anything "interesting" showing up in the logs shown by Event Viewer?

Re: no microsoft updates
Thank you. That seems to have worked for most recent 41 of the updates including Service Pack 3. A few didn not install but they are some of the earlier ones I presume.

Re: no microsoft updates
It might have missed some of the compatibility patches/OS fixes/updated drivers from Lenovo. It´s always a good idea to firstly run System Update (since the machine is new, out of the box) and then M$ update.
