Integrated bluetooth device not found

Hi guys,

I have a thinkpad x60 and am problems with it since recently. It was back some time ago when I always see the icon on the right bottom task bar in red and it was working great since long. Initially I suspected that is due to some software problem and tried to restart the computer. I have the habit and hibernating it and not shut down the laptop for ages. It went alright, as in if I restart the computer, it appears the bluetooth module will be up again.

But just now, it appears that it "permanently" went "not found" regardless of how many resets. Device manager only sees Bluetooth bus enumerator and not the other device driver.

I am wondering if the bluetooth module went died. I still have warranty for the laptop (3 yrs) and am wondering if I can just open the laptop and sent the module module to lenovo. Due to my nature of work, I need my laptop with me all the time and plus with the lots of negative feedbacks of the repair centre. I don't want to risk further damage the laptop.

I am interested to find out where I can find some instruction in how to open the thinkpad x60 up. I remember that I used to see some videos online that shows step by step instruction in how to open it up. I hope that anyone who has those links can kindly feed me with them.

I will like to thank you in advance.
:)

Is the bluetooth adapter "powered up"? Hit FN-F5 to see

I wish it is that i can see that bluetooth modem status there but it is not there anymore. It used to be there and now it is just my wifi modem status there.

Are your USB ports working? (Bluetooth is driven off USB hub)

I don't want to be insulting, but If you are asking where the guides are, I suggest not trying to replace the bluetooth adapter. It is inside the screen assembly, and the X60 series have lots of tape inside and it is easy to ruin the panel. The real question is whether you have a hardware or software problem. I would first try installing the bluetooth driver from IBM site. Then, if you have warranty, call IBM. Be aware, that they will probably try to confirm it is hardware by installing factory software image. Do you have a current backup?

alright. i have a lot of work stuff in the laptop and the best is if i dont do such a factory restore. what do you suggest that is best for me?

i am an electrical engineer by training. i am wondering if the replacing of the bluetooth module is a highly dangerous task. does the opening of case and seeking warranty from lenovo void my warranty?

If you just open the case to upgrade your RAM, it won´t void your warranty. But if you open the display case, I believe it would void your warranty.

any suggestion for a non-invasive method of assessing if the bluetooth module is died?

The risk is that you will damage the screen taking the bezel off. There are a lot of cables inside and things fit very closely. The bezel is taped on with strong 2-sided tape and it is difficult to remove without wrecking the panel. I have a spare disk and recovery disks, so I would swap disks and reinstall. Without that, I suggest getting a good backup and sending the whole machine in for warranty service. Another possibility is that you can clone your disk onto another one and swap them. Then, use the disk image (access ibm) to recover. I doubt they will want to send you a bluetooth card to install yourself

If you don't see the device under device manager, you have no way to uninstall the device. (It is called something like personal network). All I can suggest is that you install the driver from lenovo.ibm site.
