X60 screen resolution
X60 screen resolution
I have a X60. I recently purchased a monitor that has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200. The X60 does not have this setting as one of its supported screen resolutions (or at least I did not find it). The monitor works well. Still, is it possible to reconfigure the X60 to add 1920 x 1200 as one of the screen resolution settings? If so, how would I go about achieving this? Any insight would be much appreciated.
Re: X60 screen resolution
Are you using a dual screen setup or are you mirroring the X60's screen on the external screen or are you using the external monitor exclusively?
In any case, by using Presentation Director you should be able to use the external screen with its native resolution.

Re: X60 screen resolution
basketb,
Thank you for the response. I am exclusively using an external monitor. I have a Intel GMA 950 chip. I updated the drivers last night and it added 1920 x 1080 resolution at different refresh rates and bits. But it did not bring up 1920 x 1200 as a screen resolution offering. I went to the Presentation Director and 1920 x 1200 was not offered either.
I tried using 1920 x 1080 but it was blurry. So I went back to a 1600 x 1200 setting.
I did a Google search and found where others have suggested using some downloadable program, Powerstrip, to create a custom screen resolution for 1920 x 1200. The X60 supports 2048 x 1536 resolution and my understanding is that the Intel GMA 950 chip should be capable of handling 1920 x 1200 as a screen resolution. Nevertheless, I am apprehensive about using Powerstrip since I am not technically proficient.

Re: X60 screen resolution
I'm not familiar with PowerStrip, so, sorry, no help on that one from me.
A couple more suggestions (I don't have an X60 myself, so I can't offer more than suggestions but I'm surprised that you are not offered the 1920x1200 resolution. But I'm also surprised that 1920x1080 looks more blurry on your screen than 1600x1200 as the former would involve less stretching of the picture than the latter):
1. Are you using the latest version of Presentation Director?
2. (assuming you are using Win XP, the only MS OS I know) can you check in the Display (Properties) control panel, in the Settings tab, clicking "Advanced", going to the Monitor tab, whether the "Hide modes..." box is unchecked and whether you are then offered 1920x1200?

Re: X60 screen resolution
Well, I appreciate your willingness to try and assist me.
I was using the version of Presentation Director that came installed on the computer. I accessed it in the ThinkVantage Productivity Center. Is there another one that can be downloaded from somewhere?
I already checked the display properties and went through the different modes. I called the manufacturer of the monitor and they indicated the refresh rates which it would operate at were 60Hz to 75 Hz. But there is no 1920 x 1200 screen resolution setting at any refresh rate.

Re: X60 screen resolution
You can get the latest Presentation Director from lenovo.com (sorry don't have a direct link) but it should be somewhere close by where you got the latest drivers for your GPU. Alternatively, and this may be simpler, use System Update (which you should be able to access from your ThinkVantage Productivity Center). System Update will scan your system and suggest all the latest drivers/tools that are available for your Thinkpad (though if you never used this, then it will probably suggest many updates - but you get to decide which ones to download and install)
Re: X60 screen resolution
I am not sure but I found this discussion on Google. I think it may work though I will likely propose it to a tech shop since I do not have the wherewithal or courage to try it. Besides, I not have the hex values for 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz resolution.
