X61T vs. X200T

#1 Post by RVD » Wed Jan 28, 2009 4:48 pm

I did a search but didn't find much information comparing the two (probably because it's only been a few months since the X200T came out).

But what are the main differences between the two tablets? A few days ago I ordered the X61T on lenovo.com because it seemed like a pretty good deal. I got pretty much the base model with vista ultimate, multitouch for around $1200 (after 25% off coupon). I think I still have some time to cancel my order if I really want to.

The X200 similarly equipped was around $2200.

What do you really get for that extra $1000? I know that the X200 is newer, slightly thinner, slightly lighter, widescreen, and a few minor upgrades but is it really worth the difference? i don't have to have the latest and greatest (I use a X40 now and back then waited a few months to get the X40 over the X31 which I believe was a mistake now that I look back).

Are there any major features on the X200T that make it that much better than an X61T? Thanks.

RVD.

Faster hardware (cpu, system memory with real 1066 MHz :), better graphics...), IPS with LED backlit (i.e. brighter and more battery-friendly), I believe, also overall improved battery life..., running cooler... But I can´t say that all this is worth the 1000 bucks difference, it´s a matter of preference and budget. BTW, I don´t consider wide screens nicer than 4:3, I like the latter more, but again that´s matter of personal preferences.

Cheers

What are the differences between the 3 screens on the X200T?

"Wideview Standard WXGA"
"Wideview Superbright LED Backlit WXGA"
"WideView MultiTouch + MultiView LED backlit WXGA"

What are the nit ratings? Which are IPS? Does wideview mean it is a wide screen or it has usable viewing angles? Or is only the "Multitouch+Multiview" have good viewing angles?

I wish they had a lenovo.com/geek site that listed detailed specifications and FRU numbers for every component so it would be easier for people like us :P

X61T is simply brilliant. Widescreens aren't so hot, I think... I researched each machine for a looong time (because I didn't have the money to just pick one) and can safely say the X61 seemed a more appealing machine to me. (Particularly in looks) However, that's my opinion, and for all I know I might change my mind if I ever used an X200T. I just don't know if the little smidge of extra power and screen efficiency is worth all that much. :D
560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.

All of them are IPS (or FFS, which is the same) with wide viewing angles.

They do. The Tabook is a good place to start: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

Also the http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf for older models.

Finally, for every model you can search for the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) to get all the FRUs, and detailed instructions on removing and replacing them.

I agree to you about looks and also partially about widescreens. I personally prefer standard screens, but some do prefer widescreens. In a nutshell, this is what the essence of the decision between an X61 and an X200 should be.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

i think widescreens are terrible for any resolution under 1680x1050. this is why i opted for 1400x1050 on the x61.

X200T's are physically widescreens... Lenovo succumbed to consumer pressure. It doesn't really make sense for the tablet part of the the laptop.... my reasoning is that regular aspect ratio corresponds better with the size of a sheet of paper.
