how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
hey..
i have a quick question..i have the x6 ultrabase with DVD drive..and i have an 2 yr old hp laptop that is pretty much non existent..it has a 100gig HDD that i wanted to put in use in my thinkpad x61..so when i removed it, i had a seagate HDD which had pins[ones in the back of the hdd] different than the one in my thinkpad...
its model is seagate momentus 5400.2 model: ST98823AS serial AT disc drive
well thats the details that is on the white label on the HDD..
do any of you guys know how can i put this HDD in use for the thinky!???
just a thought!!!

Re: how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
You need a SATA HDD caddy for the X6. The official Lenovo one has the part number 40Y8725 (http://www5.pc.ibm.com/vn/products.nsf/ ... ite=lenovo). If you're willing to look around (eBay, buy/sell forum) you can find used or 3rd party ones for much less.sportfreak wrote:i have a quick question..i have the x6 ultrabase with DVD drive..and i have an 2 yr old hp laptop that is pretty much non existent..it has a 100gig HDD that i wanted to put in use in my thinkpad x61..so when i removed it, i had a seagate HDD which had pins[ones in the back of the hdd] different than the one in my thinkpad...

Re: how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
It's unclear whether or not you want to use this drive in the ultrabase or in the X61. If it's the X61, all SATA laptop drives are the same. If the pins look different than those in your X61 then the drive has an adapter on it. Remove it.
Re: how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
Although your comment is ambiguous, the most likely meaning, based on the data you provide, is that the 100GB HDD from the HP machine is a parallel ATA drive, and the Seagate 5400.2 ST98823AS is the drive you have in the X61.sportfreak wrote:.. i have an 2 yr old hp laptop that is pretty much non existent..it has a 100gig HDD that i wanted to put in use in my thinkpad x61..so when i removed it, i had a seagate HDD which had pins[ones in the back of the hdd] different than the one in my thinkpad...

If that's the case, and if you wish to use the 100GB drive in the X61 Ultrabase, then you need FRU #62P4553, the Parallel ATA 2nd HDD adapter, not the SATA adapter. Here is the Parallel ATA 2nd HDD adapter:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 46460.html
They cost $10 on eBay:

Good luck!

No problem. Was there an extra connector on the drive that you had to remove?

Re: how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
Can you post a picture of the top of the drive with the part number information, and also a pic of the pin interface end as well? Put it next to your T61 drive and take a third pic. If you don't have a way to host the pics, please email them to me.

Re: how to use another HDD in the ultrabase
i completely forgot about this thread..my bad
well apparently i noticed that the hp hdd did have an extra casing onto it and hence it would not fit into my x61
unscrewed it and it fit perfectly, sadly since it had xp from the ol hp laptop, i dint boot, which i tot would..
anyways thank you guys..for all your inputs..and i guess i might consider buying the HDD caddy or cradle whteva its called..it shoud be handy under emergency...
cheers!@!
