800Mhz memory

Does anyone know what will happen if I put 800Mhz memory into my X61 ? Will it just see it, explode in a fireball, cause a super-massive blackhole or just break down the fabric of space/time in a most spectacular fashion?

Nothing quite so dramatic. It will simply heave a sigh of relief that it only has to run at 667Mhz.

AFAIK, x61 is Santa-Rosa-based, so there shouldn´t be any problems installing system memory clocked at 800 MHz. The only downside of this is that would be money wasting because the 800 MHz modules will revert to 667 MHz. Memory operating at 800 MHz (in ThinkPads) is possible from Montevina on.

It's actually saving money !!!! 4GB 800 SODIMMs = £80, 4GB 667 SODIMMS = £240
Time to upgrade to 8GB

That can´t be! In Germany you could have 2x2GB 667 MHz for about 60 € (if not even cheaper in the meanwhile). You sure you checked well?

2Gb chips are the same price but I'm talking about 4GB SODIMM chips.

Ok so absolutely no perf gain going from PC5300 667 to PC 6400 800? I ran crucials memory scanner on my x61t and it said I can use both...I went to lenovos website to check specs for machine and under memory it listed pc5300 twice..So I was thinking maybe the 2nd was a typo and they meant to type pc6400?

You can use either, but 800MHz will downclock to 667MHz anyways, as stated above.
