X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
I have an external Samsung 1600x900 LCD hooked to an X61s (running Vista Home Premium 32 bit) using a VGA cable. The highest resolution selectable in the Intel Graphics properties is 1440x900 at 32 bit color depth. As far as I know, the X61s with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 should be able to support 2048 x 1536 Pixels. I tried the latest Intel drivers and the manufacturers monitor driver, and this did not change the selectable resolutions. How can I get the X61s to output at 1600x900? A T400 running DVI has no issues with this resolution on the same LCD.
Edit: Linux (OpenSUSE 11.1) has no problem on the X61s running at 1600x900.

Harry, have you tried the registry changes described in this thread?
Current: T430
Past: T42 | T60 | T61 | X61T | T410

Thanks for the link, it looks promising. I'll try it tonight.
Re: X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
I tried the registry change, and when I went to apply the new profile I got the following message;
"The following settings you have selected cannot be applied properly". It's almost like the LCD does not output the correct EDID in VGA mode, or that the X61s's GMA 965 cannot interpret it, or that the BIOS rejects it. Does anyone know of a good utility to read/interpret EDID?

Tried XP, same issue.
Re: X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
A new version of Presentation Director was released on 2/12. I only chanced upon it browsing for other drivers at the Lenovo site as it didn't appear in System Update. Perhaps you could give that a try?
I mention it in particular because I seem to recall one of the fixes as "updated supported HDTV resolutions" or the like.

Re: X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
Thanks for the tip. I installed the latest Presentation Director (4.03) and 1600x900 is still not available.
Re: X61s External LCD Resolution Problem
I have the exact same problem!
I even contacted Intel about it, but they still did't manage to help me.
It would seem that we need to do things like this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=947830
Or did you ever find an other solution to the problem?? I think it is very very strange to offer such a variety of resolutions but only 1440x900 and not 1600x900. I got this to work on my old Lifebook running Samsung monitor as first and laptop screen as second with full resolution to both, all due to Intel EGD drivers, but nothing similar is to be found for the X61 chipset.
If you ever find anything or anyone knows of anything, please don't hesitate to send a PM or something.
Regards
