strange 8 cell behaviour (30% jump)

Hi,

I have a x60s with a 8 cell, apperently original lenovo, but you never know.

after 107 cycles it claimes that loading capacity is still identically to design capacity ( would be cool), but:
when I use is it shifts basically directely from +/- 33 % left to 5% left.It alo loads way faster than the estimated time shown.

clearly I tried recalibrating this (twice), but the shown full capacity does not go down...

Any idea what this could be? Is there a trick to get the right capacity shown?

It is a sony (FRU 93P5030)

Thanks !

r.

The behavior you describe is typical of what happens when of a cell inside a Li-Ion battery goes bad. There is no cure, no fix for the bad cell. You can continue to use the battery, of course, but it will have a diminished capacity.

I have this too with my x61... it sucks! At first it was jumping from around 40% to 5%, now its even more sporadic and its jumped from 80%. My battery has 171 cycles now, but the first time it happened was 1 day after the 1 year anniversary of the purchase of the laptop :(

luckily I can keep it plugged in a lot at home and at school because I'm trying to avoid forking out 150$ plus for a new battery

thanks for the replies,

I knew this from my old i1400 series, but assumed, that the new smart loading electronics can detect such stuff...

Just out of curiousity: Do you also have a SONY 8-cell, so would it be wise to look for other manufacturerrs in the future?

thanks

yes, I also have a Sony battery. I know that some of them were recalled from the x60's but I have an x61 and no such luck.
