Fitting Ultralight XGA LCD to x61 (and Q about T9300)

I've been looking into part numbers for Ultralight (TMD) 12.1" LCDs.

It looks like 13N7092 is the one. I understand that this is somewhat brighter than a non Ultralight display. Not as bright/crisp as an IPS but better than other X61 LCDs.

I also understand that this was a CTO option on x61s only ? (is this correct).

So - my question is this.
Can I fit the thinner Ultralight LCD case to an x61 (not x61s) ?

Also - has anyone seen/used a T9300 based x61 ?
www.thinkwiki.org list them as existing and ebay have got them. I'm thinking this might be the basis for my next frakenpad as I've given up on the idea of SXGA x61s.

Just get an X61s. I switch back and forth between an L7700 X61s and a T9600 W500. For most normal stuff (other than games and certain 1000 page PDF documents I work with) - there is no noticeable difference. Both run at 800MHz most of the time anyway.

First, a clarification: The "top"of the machine does not know nor care whether the "bottom" of the machine is an X61 or an X61s.

The Ultralight LCD panel goes with its own LCD case back, LCD case bezel, LCD cable, and hinges. The only components from the non-UL "top" that can be transferred to the UL "top" are the Bluetooth module (if you have one) and the inverter.

The two "tops" look identical after assembly, but the insides differ and the non-UL casing, cable, and hinges will not accommodate the UL panel.

I doubt I can get a used UL based x61s in the UK, meaning I would construct one from the used parts. With this in mind I thought I would get the most upgradable planar I could. I am very worried about excessive fan noise though so perhaps I should just search very hard for a used UL based x61s in the UK.

From my T60p mods I thought this would be the case. Sounds like there is nothing stopping me from doing this x61 mod.
I just need to weigh up more pros and cons of building it from "scratch".

You should know that the fan on any X61/s platform (X61 or X61s) will be running audibly at least 90% of the time regardless of activity -- compare that to less than 10% duty cycle on an X60s platform. X60s machines are dead silent; X61/s machines are far from silent, and controlling the fan speed with software does not mitigate the noise problem because there is no way to mitigate the reason the fan is running, i.e., the heat generated by the Intel's Santa Rose chipset on the X61/s units.

If you can live with a 32-bit operating system and 3GB max memory, then any X60/s will be far quieter than any X61/s.

That is certainly *NOT* what I wanted to hear.

My T60p is terrible for fan noise because of the liquid magma like temps of the ATI GPU.

My options for a nice cool'n'quiet laptop, with a half decent quality screen with SSD and 8GB RAM for ramdisks under Linux are getting much much smaller. :?

Well, that's if I stick with Thinkpads. I don't myself consider a glossy widescreen to be a half decent quality screen in case someone asks.

Does anyone else have the same opinion about the X61/X61s fan ?
I would be interested in knowing in general the noise levels on these models.

Bearing in mind I would be fitting SSD, a second WWAN fan and (now) it would probably be an x61s so low voltage CPU.

I currently have a T60p that emits a pulsing sound when the fan is on and runs about 3000rpm (lowest setting).

How would an x61s fare ?

I almost never recall hearing my X61s fan.
