Is the bezel sitting the way it's supposed to be? If it is, then you have a sub-standard LCD...

Pictures would definitely help...

i've seen this on a handful of SXGA+ displays.   in fact, my X61T had it and my X61s has it -- maybe not quite as bad as yours but it's still visible under the right conditions.

given that all of my former IPS displays had some sort of bright corner, i've learned to accept it as a trade-off.   IPS and AFFS displays aren't perfect after all.

That's indeed a leak, I can't notice it (at least visually) on my X61T.

I've seen such issues on other notebooks and LCD screens through. Probably not an IPS/AFFS-specific issue, but more likely due to relative poor assembly.

Depends on your usage, you may not notice it at all during everyday operation through.

If you insist, of course you may check with Lenovo to get it fixed.

exactly that is my point. We all know that most screens have some kind of bleeding but is the bleeding supposed to be there on IPS?/AFFS screeen? Is bleeding normal for IPS/AFFS?

I would say that this level of bleeding is not normal for any screen. If it bothers you, I would advise trying to claim warranty. There is a good chance you will succeed.

I would just ask one question: Are you the original owner? I ask, because whenever I have seen that much bleeding, the bulb was replaced and not installed correctly into the channel.

It is really hard to control the uniformity in a laptop panel due to their size, as it is much thinner compared to a desktop panel, where CCFLs are usually mounted in the sides also. That means that the LCD layer and different layers aren't totally up against the side walls as with laptop panels. I've never seen a laptop display with a perfect uniformity with no leakage, it's always there, TN or IPS, but at least the IPS panels rarely have any amount of bleeding from the bottom - which is nice, as opposed to the TN panels, where this seems to be the norm. :(
