After factory restore unable to restore my system files

Am giving my wife my X60 as I shifted to a Mac (note I didn't use the word upgrade :)

Used XP's backup software under System Tools, and backed up all the documents to an external HDD

Did a factory restore.

Now when I try to restore from the back up file nothing gets processed. In other words, the restore goes through all the files and takes about 1.5 hours. However, nothing gets processed, as indicated by the Files Processed 0 in the dialog box.

I did originally get an error message in the report, but now it does not appear any longer.

The strange thing is that I did this while at work, and I am able to extract data from the back up file to my work PC, and then copy the raw files over to the X60.

So, the factory restore has changed something that will not allow me to restore the files. I have used this system in the past, only a few weeks ago, and it worked.

Any idea what it could be? I would just use the work computer to move it all over to the X60, but I don't have the space.

Try runnng the same version of Thinkvantage Rescue Recovery on the new build as you did when you made the backup.

I did not use the Thinkvantage R&R but the back up program in all Window versions. The one under Accessories -> System -> Tools...I think

I have always used this to make my back ups and restores rather than R&R

Here is the report from the Backup or Restore Wizard from my X60. Only 1 file was processed after about 20 minutes. As I said before, I am able to restore this file on my work PC, but not the X60. Maybe I should do a factory reset again?

Try reinstalling System Restore. Open Windows Explorer and go to the windows\inf folder. In there find the sr.inf file, right click it and select Install.

I read on the MS forum about ownership rights to files and file sharing under XP. I have changed the settings as suggested, and now I am able to only partially restore.

I am UNABLE to restore the entire .bkf file.

I am ABLE to restore individual files and folders.

Strange.
