Airline stewardess spilled orange juice on my X61S keyboard
Airline stewardess spilled orange juice on my X61S keyboard
On a recent flight home, the stewardess spilled about half a glass of OJ on my keyboard. I tried cleaning it up as best possible but to no avail. The keyboard still works, but now many of the keys stick & sometimes don't pop back up. Is the keyboard replaceable, & if so where would I get a new keyboard and how difficult is it to replace? Alternatively, do the keytops come off so that maybe I can "deep clean" the keys?
TIA

Exactly what I needed, thanks!

Or you could wash your keyboard. I have never done it so I can't guarantee it will work. Remove your keyboard, put it in the water.. maybe with dish soap. Leave it for a while.
Alternatively, u can remove each key and clean it.

washing it would work well. if your dishwasher has a cold cycle, you can even wash it in there. I used to do it to dirty Xbox units a long time ago (long story).
It'll certainly be cheaper than replacing the whole keyboard.
Those keyboard drains are great, though. At least you're not looking at a brand new computer.

Re: Airline stewardess spilled orange juice on my X61S keyboard
At my Z61e, I spilled multiple things on and inside the keyboard, coke, coffee...
As the keyboard has holes so the water can "flow" through it, I just put water on the keyboard and pressed the keys often at the points they were sticky.
They worked pretty good afterwards, and still do up to now
By the way, I even kept it turned ON during the procedure with water...... everything fine
The only thing you should look for that there is enough space below the laptop so the water can flow out easily...

Use distilled / deionized water to increase your chances. Soap is unnecessary as orange juice contains no grease. Good luck.
To the dishwasher guy: I'm impressed

I think they're called Flight Attendants now.

So why isn't it the airline's problem to repair/replace your keyboard? (What if the spilled drink had fried your motherboard?)swedevb wrote:the stewardess spilled about half a glass of OJ on my keyboard...

hausman, I'm sure it is their problem, but if you've ever dealt with airlines before you probably agree that it's just not worth the time.

I have, with mixed results. If you don't try you'll never know. I'd imagine most flight attendants would be embarrassed to spill drinks on passengers and would help to resolve the issue, e.g. by filing a note on the flight log to corroborate the passenger's claim for restitution.mbratton wrote:if you've ever dealt with airlines before you probably agree that it's just not worth the time.

Re: Airline stewardess spilled orange juice on my X61S keyboard
A method that i used to clean my laptop keyboard after I threw up on it was to take it out, pop off the keys that needed cleaning, and rinsing the keyboard (and motherboard, case, screen...) under the tap. Then I left it for a couple of days and it is working fine now - that is what I am typing this on. (Toshiba, t41 still not fixed)
