install SXGA+ on a XGA X61 tablet

i'm buying an x61t - it only has the 1024x768 screen (i'm in the uk, haven't seen many with the 1400x1050)

so:
  • given it's an x61t the bios should already support 1400x1050 panel?
  • can i buy the 1400x1050 panel off ebay and replace my 1024x768 panel with it (still in tablet configuration)
  • i have the oppurtunity to buy a broken x61 off a friend - could i (theoretically) combine the x61t components with the x61 chassis, to create a non-tablet 1400x1050 system, without having to mess with making my own cable? i.e. i'd use all internals off x61t, combined with chassis of x61 and the new 1400x1050 screen?
thanks!

mod edit: split into new topic since this has to do with a tablet and not a notebook

chris,

you might find the following threads helpful:

while these are for the X60T, the same principles apply.   you need to read your system's hardware maintenance manual and determine what parts are necessary besides the panel itself.   most likely you'll need the panel with digitizer and the bezel unless yours already has the correct bezel.

there is only one BIOS for the X61T and it already contains the microcode necessary to drive SXGA+.

thanks erik

i hadn't realised up to today that the maintenance manual for the tablets was different - found it now so will take a look..

i'll look to try just the panel swap initially to make my tablet sxga+ - hopefully that will be within my capabilities!
