X60s display less bright than X40???

Hey everyone,

Been moving around the X-series (always have had the T-series ThinkPads), and I've noticed that my new(er) X60s's display is much less bright than my X40 display. It's a 1702-4EU, and the X40 is a 2371-8EU. I don't know if there was an upgraded display option for the X40, but it is quite distracting.

On the X60 I'm running Windows 7 and OSX86 at the moment, and even at max brightness, it is somewhat dull and washed out. I've tried recalibrating color settings, but to no avail.

Could the Intel drivers increase the brightness at all? The X40 is running real drivers, whereas the other two are just running the basic Windows and Mac drivers for the display.

I'd appreciate any help :(

Drivers of any kind will NOT increase brightness..

My question would be whether you have the LCD brightness in BIOS set to "normal" or "high" on your machines? Setting it to "high" will improve the brightness, but will decrease the battery life...

I have an X40 & X60s both of which I purchased new. Obviously the X40 being older, is not as bright as the X60s which is very bright. As bright as when it was new. The way I know that is I have a new X200s rated the same as the X60s and side by side they are identical. My take is that yours may have a lot of hours on it and perhaps it was not right when new as it certainly should not look washed out. Mine is quite clear and crisp. I would expect yours to be better than you desribed. If still under warranty I would call, open a case, and send it in.
.
Cheers...
