I searched and wasn't able to find a clear answer. Can a 3G modem be added to an x61 that didn't have it from the factory? If so where can I get parts to get it working? Do I need to install antennas as well? I have AT&T currently so which card would I need?

Thanks

Yes it can be done but make sure you have a sim slot on the motherboard. you can order original antenna from http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com. there is an antenna slot on the right side of lcd cover. you have to remove the plastic cover. go check on x61 hardware maintenance manual on parts list and installation and removal of lcd. its a tedious work but if you have time and patience it can be done. if your wan card is none lenovo you will get an error on boot up. go check the t6x forum for help. there is a thread about lenovo bios whitelist. if you travel to different countries, you have to unlock the card. asia and europe have different frequecies and so with australia. i have done several x61 myself and its costly to buy spareparts specially if you break the plastic parts and order wrong parts.

PS: if you are on at&t you need a sierra mc8775.if you buy the original brand new lenovo it cost around $300 to$500. but go check on ebay. you can get a lenovo for around $200 or you can get the HP HS2300 for a lot less but you have to use a mod bios.
