I have an X61s that has lately developed a mild but annoying squeak when typing. It seems to be mostly the space bar, but I think a couple other keys do it to some extent. I have some pure silicon lube and I could apply a small drop to the key stems, but I am unsure how to remove a key cap and/or the space bar without damaging anything.
Suggestions? I have searched the web and found lots of referencs to squeaky keys (not confined to Thinkpads either) but so far, no mention of a fix other than replacing the keyboard.
TIA,
Paul
Squeaky keys
Re: Squeaky keys
Try tightening the screws under the laptop that has a keyboard next to them.
Re: Squeaky keys
Maybe a graphite lubricant? I've got a hunch the keys may be dirty though. Try cleaning?

Re: Squeaky keys
The lubricant isn't an issue. What I need to know is how to get the key caps off of an X61s..... in particular, the space bar. I was surprised that so far I have not been able to find that info on the web. Not even in the hardware maintenance manual.
