X60 Tablet Bezel differences

#1 Post by amujee » Sun Jun 28, 2009 7:56 pm

Currently, my X60 tablet is XGA (no touch) with a fingerprint reader and no WAN.
Do I have to get a new bezel to upgrade from XGA (no touch) to XGA touch?
I thought I could just swap panels, but according to the Hardware Maintenance Manual it look likes I may have to get a different bezel.

XGA (no touch)/SXGA+ bezel is FRU 42W2537.
XGA touch bezel is FRU 42W2656.

One thing that confused me was that there was someone in this forum who did an upgrade from XGA touch to SXGA+ and it sounded like it was just a straight swap.
Anyone know for sure if I can just do a straight swap for my upgrade?

Thanks.

From XGA to SXGA+ should be a straight swap with no problem, since the BIOS already has SXGA+ microcode.
From XGA non-touch to XGA touch, there's many ways to tackle this. You can either buy a XGA touchscreen, get the passive digitizer layer out and put it in your current display, or replace the entire screen. If the part numbers of the bezels are different, chances are they are different. You can try purchasing the XGA touchscreen first, then try it on. If it doesn't fit, then purchase the bezel afterward.

So my current BIOS wouldn't have the XGA touchscreen code?
Doesn't that mean the upgrade to XGA touch wouldn't work even with the correct bezel?

No no, microcode is only to detect and correctly display the right resolution of the screen. It absolutely doesn't have anything to do with the screen being a touchscreen or not. If you have the correct touchscreen with the correct bezel, it will work just fine. Good luck.

I have an x60t, (6364-38u) with the 1024x768 screen. It is stylus-only touch, and I would like to convert it to finger touch... what would be involved in that conversion?

Thank you!

My X60 Tablet was upgraded to finger touch and it has the same bezel as before. In fact, the technician left me an extra bezel, says they have a habit of needing replacement as they're not quite sturdy enough. I can check the part number when I get home later.
