Hey guys,
First time on the forum. Hope someone may have an idea
how to fix this.
I have an X61 Tablet running Vista.
I've been having the a pop up saying "CSS Authentication Provider has stopped working" at start up.
I've tried reinstalling the Client Security and also the Fingerprint Reader to no avail.
Ideas anybody?

Solution:
1. Uninstall Client Security Software (CSS)
2. Uninstall fingerprint software (you may not need to do this step)
3. In the bios do the following:
1.) Shutdown the computer (you MUST completely shut down computer... NOT restart)
2.) Hold down F1 (while computer is off)
3.) Continue holding F1 and power on the computer.
4.) When the boot screen says that's in entering the bios, release the F1 key.
5.) Go under Security, Security Chip, and Choose to clear the encryption.
6.) hit escape and return to 'security' > fingerprint (enable all ) > then erase fingerprint info
4. Reinstall CSS and Fingerprint software
(you don't really need the css... it isn't necessary for the fingerprint software and many people in this forum have uninstalled it for various reasons)

hey guys,
i had the same problem i went through uninstalled the css auth. then went into the bios and diabled the the security chip just to get rid of it and my error message went away but i have a blinking hour glass next to my cusor and it is really annoying.
so i went back and reversed my steps adding everything piece by piece and when i got all the way back to loading the css auth again the hour glass stopped blinking but the "css authentication provider" error comes back
if anyone has any advice i would appreciate it
thanks
