Very Dim LCD screen

I have a thinkpad x60t with a dark LCD screen when I boot up. The screen is completely dark, but I can see the image on the screen if a flashlight is shining directly at the screen.

Things I have tried to fix, but did not work:
- replaced the LCD bulb
- replaced the inverter
- replaced the microprocessor LCD board

I can see everything when I connect to an external monitor. The Thinkpad x60t LCD screen works fine because when I disconnected from my laptop and connected to the inverter of my other Thinkpad x41t and I was able to run the Thinkpad x41t off the Thinkpad x60t.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!

Chances are that you have a blown fuse or other damage on the motherboard.

There are two separate outputs from the graphics card: digital for the LCD and analog for the VGA. One can work while the other is completely dead, I've seen it more than once.

Unless you're good at board-level repair (and lucky as well) you'll be looking for a new motherboard.

Good luck.

ajkula66,

Is there anyway to test for it? Like a volt meter?

Thanks for replying

I've actually had a case where the LCD cable is actually damaged and not other components. The pin that provides a voltage for backlight is actually cut, so there's no backlight on the screen. Check to make sure that all the pin on your LCD cable is not damaged.
