Changing Mobile Broadband Number in Access Connections

I have an X60, with a Sierra wireless EVDO modem built in, and using Vista with Access Connections 5.31. Access Connections lists an older, incorrect wireless mobile broadband phone number, and I'd like to update it.

Background:
I had tried Verizon mobile broadband in 2007 using their VZ Access software, and discontinued it within a month due to poor reception. I signed up for mobile broadband again in 2009, and found that Access Connections is accessing the modem, and unsuccessfully trying to connect using the 2007 broadband phone number account. I am not sure how AC received this number, since I never used it with mobile broadband, only using VZ Access.

Does anyone know how to change the mobile number account in Access Connections?

My recent actions:
- VZ Access cannot find the modem during installation since Access Connections is accessing it. No way Verizon can help if their software can't even find the modem.
- Verizon checked and found the 2007 phone number is currently in use, so they can't switch my new number to it.
- I deleted the modem driver and reinstalled, but AC still records the old number.
- Since 2007, I've updated through many versions of AC.
- I've searched the Windows registry for the old number, it is not recorded in there.

I'd rather use AC than install VZ Access and so would like to change the phone number from within AC but there is no option to do so.

Thanks for anyone's advice. Verizon can't help and Lenovo won't answer a question on "configurations".

Carl

The mobile account number "resides" inside the WWAN device. The only way it changes is when one activates/re-activates the WWAN card, at which time the ESN of the device is looked up in Verizon's data base and the mobile number assigned to that ESN is returned to the WWAN device to be written into the non-volatile memory of the WWAN card. That is where Access Connections is getting the number.

Find a way to activate the card and the number will change. Run VZ Access Manager's "Activate" function, and thereafter uninstall VZ Access Manager (or strop using it) if you prefer to use Access Connections for managing the WWAN card -- although I do not know why one would prefer that Access Connections controls the WWAN card rather than letting VZ Access Manager perform that task.

One can also use Dial-Up Networking with the WWAN card to initialize and activate the card on Verizon Wireless:
-- send a *228, pause 10 seconds, then sent a 1.

Appreciate the advice.

Since VZ Access won't install with AC using the modem, I expect to uninstall AC or kill it with Task manager, then install VZ Access going through the activation process. Then reinstall AC.

It's a 2+ year buggy installation of Vista, and the hard drive is near full. Until I find the time to re-install a clean Vista (or Win7) with a larger hard drive, I was trying not to install new software.

Thanks again.
