Excessive fan noise

For the past few months, my X60s' fan has sounded more and more like a mini diesel engine - very clattery.

Have got about 3 months factory warranty left on the laptop - is this something IBM would repair?

If so, is it likely that it's a quick fix (bolt in replacement fan?) or a lengthy repair - anybody else had a similar issue? Like many of you I'm looking to have minimal downtime for a repair of this nature.

Any UK (non-corporate) users had any experience of dealing with Lenovo re: warranties? Their website is not exactly very user friendly.

Thx

Yes.

Certainly sounds like something is wrong with the fan, if that is the case and they can reproduce it, they'll just pop a new fan in, and that's it.

My X60s had a fan that basically stopped working which resulted in the machine not powering on. Since I bought this second-hand and it was already out of warranty, I purchased a fan from the Marketplace and did the swap myself. It's not terribly hard to do, just requires some patience, a screwdriver (all three kinds =P) and some thermal paste. The only downside is you basically have to take the entire base apart, as the fan/heatsink assembly is located on the bottom of the planar.

Since yours is still under warranty, I'd get them to replace it.
