X61s Firewire port

#1 Post by all0gic » Sun Sep 13, 2009 3:54 pm

This might seem silly but I have a Sony HD camcorder and want to use the Firewire port for connecting the video camera to & doing some video editing.

However it will not pickup the camera and it seems to be using the firewire port as a network connection. Does anyone know how to change the setting or do I have a 'data' firewire port and not whatever it is that I require?

Cheers!

I have connected a Panasonic DV camcorder to a X61T before (a variant of X61s), and Vista automatically prompted me to import the video.

The tricky part, I guess, is to configure your camcorder accordingly. In my case, I set my camcorder in VCR mode when connecting to the PC.

Cheers.

True. Look in the camera's configuration menu for some option such as "DV", "digital out", "video out" or something like that in which there will be some choice to be activated.
Then you can capture the video using Movie Maker or better software like Vegas.
The firewire network is something else, not related to video, it's a capability to connect to computers by way of the 1394 slot.
I have an X60s and previously an X31, both always handled firewire video perfectly as well as firewire external HDs (only when self-powered).

I have a Canon Elura 70 camcorder. I have the a 1394 DV 4 pin cable connecting the camcorder to the 1394 port on my ThinkPad X60S.
The X60S does not recognize the camcorder.
QUESTION: Does the 1394 port on the X60S work if the X60S is locked into the docking station?
Any ideas on how I can get the two to communicate?

Thanks, Mark Flynn

Hi Visitor:
Thanks for your prompt reply. I activated the Canon camcorder's AV>DV. Made sure the firewire cable was securely connected to the camcorder and the X60s. And I undocked the X60s from its docking station - just to be sure that the docking station wasn't an issue.
Still, in Windows (XP) Movie Maker I'm receiving this error message: "A video capture device was not detected... "
Anyway, thanks for your help.
Best regards.
