I just replaced my fan on my x60s. As far as i know everything went fine and I was very careful when reassembling to make sure no cables were pinched etc. After boot up and going into bios to check all settings, everything works great except BT is not recognised. It's enabled in the bios but does not appear in device manager. Pressing FnF5 only shows the wan and not BT.

My question. Does the BT module use the ribbon cable to link to the motherboard? I assume it does. I checked and it appears properly secured so I cannot understand when the BT is not working. I didn't dismantle any part of the LCD screen or bezel so don't think anything could have been disturbed there.

Any help appreciated.

If you are talking about the LCD ribbon cable, then the answer is yes, the bluetooth signals pass through it. Why do you ask, did you disconnect it? The bluetooth module itself is housed inside the LCD bezel, lower left.

Well to replace the cpu fan you need to remove the lcd with lid (i.e. in one piece by removing the screws on the hinges and lifting it out). I disconnected the ribbon cable where it attaches to the motherboard not on the actual lcd panel itself.

I just find it strange that it BT in not working now as I didn't disturb anything in the lcd panel itself. On the motherboard side the lcd ribbon cable just snaps in so it's not really possible to have it half connected or not.

I'll have to have another look inside to see if I can spot anything wrong. Any way of checking the BT card? It's not showing up in XP or Linux and is enabled in the bios. What are the chances of a BT card failing? It would be a huge coincidence but possible I guess.

If you look at the parts explosion diagram at the link below, you'll see the BMDC card at location #9. It is hooked to the LCD cable internally inside the LCD. You'd have to remove the front LCD bezel to get to it. I'd try to reseat the main LCD ribbon cable first. If that does not work I'd remove the LCD bezel to see if the BMDC card connection has come loose internally.

OK, I got it working. I just reseated the ribbon cable on the mainboard and it now works. Strange because I thought I had made sure everything was properly connected before closing up. The ribbon had to snap it with a good click and required a bit more force than I expected.
