X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
The X61s panel is a BOEHYDIS HT121X01-101 . It looks similar to a lot of other 12.1" XGA panels out there, but has anyone confirmed if any other panels can be used other than the Boehydis HT121X01-101 in the X61s? Reason why I ask is that the direct replacement panel is pretty freaking expensive, and there are a lot of 12.1" XGA panels out there cheaper which may or may not be plug-compatible. thanks....

Welcome to the forum!
For a list of LCDs, you may want to consult the HMM...

I'm always weary of experimenting with unknown LCDs...one pin in the wrong place and you can say goodbye to your motherboard...
Good luck.

Re: X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
The HMM (same as https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/migr-62914) helpfully lists models... but it's quite unclear as well.
It lists the three brands (Hydis, Samsung, CMO) right after the panel entry (3), but doesn't say which model number mounts which brand. Is there a way to know in advance? Before I cannibalize one of my spares or buy one...

From http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display, these are the other LCDs for the X60/61 series (non-Tablet):
CMO N121X5-L06 (FRU 42T0343)
Samsung LTN121XJ-L07 (FRU 13N7096)
Based on Datasheet:
Samsung LTN121XJ-L02 --> I tested this one on my X61; it's from a Dell D400, possible issue with fit, as its LCD frame is slightly bigger.

Re: X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
The Thinkwiki page lists a single FRU (the "TMD" unit from HMM). Is that because that unit is the one that all X61s use (as opposed to the non-s units)?
But reading other posts it seems that even taking a screen from another X61s is not foolproof as some have different pinouts, right?

Re: X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
Not all X61s use the TMD (aka Ultralight) screen. The OP's LCD is a Boe-Hydis, which means it's one of the the regular LCDs.
The regular (SWPG) LCDs are interchangeable since there's only 2 cables for them, one with Bluetooth connector, one without. This isn't like the T4x/R5x series where XGA, SXGA+, and UXGA screens required different cables.
Reminder: Do NOT try to connect the Tablet screens on the non-Tablet X60/61, and vice-versa.
While they have the same connectors, the pinouts are different, and it will blow a fuse on the system board at the very least, or damage the LCD, board, or both.

Re: X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
Thanks Axur. I understand it's a bit of a c***shoot. Unless I find a unit with BT on eBay, I will open up my X61s's and check if I can swap my media-X61s (which always outputs to my TV and doesn't need a good screen) with my work-X61s.

Sometimes it's better to swap the entire lid, That way you don't have to worry about incompatibility issues.

Use software like HWinfo to list the 'innards' of your laptop(s).
Re: X61s LCD replacement - equivalent panels?
Well in the end I went the quick way and just swapped HDs between two of my X61s. Of course, win went into a still-unresolved panic because of the hardware change activation issue.
