X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
I just had the hard drive crap out on an X60T. I was thinking about replacing with an SSD drive. Can someone confirm whether I need a SATA or IDE interface? Any particular SSD drive recommendations? Any other pros/cons to putting an SSD drive in an X60T?
Thanks!
Thanks!

An X60t has an SATA interface. The Intel X25-M's always get the nod on reviews ... pricey though.

I second harryc's nomination. Can't go wrong with the Intel unit. Sure the cost is up there, but the speed improvement will put a million dollar smile on 'ya.elee532 wrote:I just had the hard drive crap out on an X60T. Thanks. I just placed an order for the 80gb X25 Gen2 from mwave.com for $250.

Re: X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
By the way, the X60 series has an SATA interface, and is limited to 1.5GB/s speeds. The Intel SSD is capable of running at SATA II speeds of 3.0GB/s, so the performance in an X60 will be slightly less than that of the same SSD in an SATA II machine like an X200. It will still be faster than a 7200rpm hard drive though. Electrically, the interface itself is not an issue because SATA II is downward compatible with SATA. The only reason I mention this at all is so that you won't be disappointed by expecting a Porsche and getting an Audi
.
Re: X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
Thanks for that explanation. This is good to know. As long as it's at least as fast as the 7200 rpm drive and a bit more durable than a spinning disk drive, I'm comfortable with the premium.
Do you happen to know whether the X61T is SATA or SATA II? I've got an X61T that might be next in line for a HDD replacement. Wondering what to expect with that one.
Thanks!

I'm guessing its now installed. Are you happy with it, any comments.elee532 wrote:Thanks. I just placed an order for the 80gb X25 Gen2 from mwave.com for $250.
X61 and (retired)600x.
Re: X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
It wasn't my computer that I was ordering for and I had someone else do the install. However, I heard of no issues from the person that did the install and the user tells me her system is working great and feels a lot faster.paul*robertson wrote:I'm guessing its now installed. If you are considering one, I would say its a great choice. I have my own X61T that I may or may not be replacing very soon. If I don't replace it, I definitely plan to order another one of these for my computer.

I'll wait till the price comes down first.

I have X25-M G2 80GB on my X61T and it also suffers Lenovo's SATA implementation. I don't achieve those SATA 300 speeds.elee532 wrote:...

Re: X60T HDD Failure... Questions about SSD as replacement drive
I have a X18-M G1 80GB on my X61T, and although I don't hit the maximums advertised, I will take the machine's maximum 150MB/s over my 7200rpm drive anyday. The price and size are right for someone who wants the speed today, not 2-3 years from now when I'll have already moved onto another new Thinkpad (that may even come with SSD as the baseline).koray wrote:
