Questions about X60s card reader...

#1 Post by LegendaryKA8 » Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:40 pm

Hey there. I just needed some clarification on a couple of things about the SD card reader on my new X60s.

From what I've been reading, an X60s running WinXP won't accept SDHC cards unless it has a certain hotfix applied to it; Vista natively has the correct drivers to allow SDHC cards to be read. Is this a correct assumption?

I'm looking at getting a large capacity SDHC card to store backups of my schoolwork and other critical files. I do have an Expresscard SSD that I use as well, but the adapter that I have to use to get it to work in the X60s sticks out quite a bit and is a bit ungainly. With the proper drivers applied, will I be able to read a 16/32GB SDHC card in this system? I'm not worried about the speed as much as I am having extra storage that's flush with my notebook.

For what it's worth, I've been able to pop in a 4GB SDHC from my camera and transfer files off of it in WinXP. I seem to recall applying a hotfix that mentioned SDHC, and I think it should be able to read the higher capacity cards as well.

I just use the Thinkvantage system update tool to download/install the Lenovo software.

The SDHC standard covers most 4GB cards and all cards larger than that. This means if it accepts a 4GB SDHC, it will take an 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB.
